The 21st century is the era of BT economy.
The Government has understood that the key to economic development in the 21st century is the BT industry and is sharing much support. The modern R&D of ultramodern technologies is led by the trend of creating completely new technologies through creative destruction, which is destroying barriers for convergence. Seoul National University has already made extensive efforts to lead the world's economic development and R&D. As a consequence, the Bio-MAX Institute was established in January 2004. The Bio-MAX Institute pursues Multidisciplinary studies of faculties and students, Adventurous studies for creativity, and EXcellent outcomes to explore new fields of research.
To further our basic principles, Bio-MAX Institute is representing Seoul National University to be KAIST's partner to work on the International Bio Information Research Complex (BIT Port) project. The BIT Port project involves building a 660,000m2 research complex in Incheon Free Economic Zone by 2012 for Seoul National University and KAIST to conduct BT and IT convergence studies and create a test bed to develop and utilize "Mobile Life Care" technologies. Once this project is completed successfully, Seoul National University would be able to take its technological development to the next level. Currently, both Seoul National University and KAIST are actively supporting the project.
Bio-MAX Institute has conducted multidisciplinary studies to develop core technologies, ultramodern medical technologies, and new medicines and foods that are essential for new values in the BT industry. Also, it has connected bio clusters nationwide through a network to lead Korea's future R&D and industrialization in the field of BT. Furthermore, the Bio-CEO Program, which opened in the fall of 2006, offers the best curriculums in BT and fosters Korea's opinion leaders into world leaders in BT economy for the 21st century.
Bio-MAX Institute has accomplished a lot with your efforts and sacrifices for the last four years. We are now standing in front of a new turning point. We are bringing in energy and encouraging our researchers to focus on their R&D activities. We are also handling issues such as forming private spaces and expanding the pool of faculty members wisely to achieve world-class growth. We strongly believe that this is the only way for Seoul National University to return to the society and fulfill our mission to lead the future of Korea.
We would truly appreciate your support and interests.
